The History
The Comstock Lode made Nevada in 1859, but the modern era began quietly in 1961 on the Carlin Trend, where geologists proved something that changed gold mining worldwide: deposits of microscopic, invisible gold locked inside other minerals, in quantities nobody had been able to see or recover before. The Carlin Trend became the most productive gold trend in the Western Hemisphere, and Nevada now produces roughly three-quarters of all US gold.
