Copper mining expanded around the turn of the twentieth century, including the Ferris-Haggarty operation in the Sierra Madre. The history remains visible in towns, infrastructure, archives, mine workings, and the technical knowledge carried between generations. It also creates a duty to distinguish historic production from a modern resource, reserve, permit, or operating plan.

The current operating and development landscape
Uranium in-situ recovery, trona, coal, bentonite, rare-earth development, and exploration dominate the modern landscape. Ur-Energy, Cameco, Uranium Energy Corp., Rare Element Resources, American Rare Earths, Ramaco Resources, and U.S. Gold Corp. represent different commodities and stages. Direct producing exposure to gold, silver, or copper remains much narrower than in neighboring states.
Uranium can become reactor fuel after conversion, enrichment, and fabrication. Trona becomes soda ash for glass, detergents, and chemicals. Rare earth elements support permanent magnets and advanced technology. Copper carries electricity, while gold and silver serve technology and monetary uses.
