Gold was discovered near Pierce in 1860, helping accelerate settlement before the northern silver districts became the state's enduring mining center. The Coeur d'Alene district began producing in the 1880s and has yielded more than a billion ounces of silver according to the Idaho Geological Survey. Central districts such as Stibnite later supplied strategic antimony and tungsten, while many smaller camps produced gold, copper, lead, and zinc.

Mountain terrain, underground development, water management, reclamation, permitting, metallurgy, financing, and commodity cycles all affect project outcomes. A property may move from exploration to resource definition, pause while engineering is updated, change owners, seek a partner, enter construction, or return to care and maintenance. Dates and verbs matter. Readers should distinguish what has happened from what management expects or hopes will happen next.
