Some drill holes confirm a system. This one, on Hycroft's own account, rewrites its record book. The results, released October 13 from the 2025–2026 exploration program at the Hycroft Mine near Winnemucca, centre on a single hole at the Vortex system.
- Hole H26D-6175A returned 19.6 metres at 30.49 g/t gold and 1,726.72 g/t silver, from 416.5 to 436.1 metres downhole.
- Inside that interval sits 1.7 metres at 347.07 g/t gold and 9,526.36 g/t silver. Visible gold was present in the intercept.
- Hycroft calls it the best hole drilled in the mine's more than 40-year history, the highest gold grades it has ever reported, and the highest silver grades yet drilled at Vortex.
- The intercept extends the high-grade mineralisation further west and south than previously reported holes, and the company says mineralisation was hit at intervals through the length of the hole, not only in the headline zone.
- Follow-up drilling is already under way, with work also accelerating at the neighbouring Brimstone system.
Why Vortex matters to Hycroft
Hycroft's long history is as a heap leach operation. Its current work is aimed at the next phase — processing sulfide mineralisation — and at two newer high-grade silver systems, Vortex and Brimstone, that sit inside the larger deposit. A hole like 6175A matters to that plan less for its grade alone than for what Hycroft thinks the alteration style may signal: that drilling could be approaching the source of the Vortex system. That is an interpretation, not a finding, and only follow-up holes will test it.
One number deserves its plain context. The eye-catching grades come from a narrow core interval at depth — 1.7 metres of very high-grade material inside a 19.6-metre interval, inside one hole. Drill intercepts are point measurements along a hole, reported here as downhole lengths; they are not a resource, a reserve, or a mine plan, and a single hole cannot establish continuity between sections.
The honesty box
Hycroft has no completed feasibility study for the sulfide phase, and its own release cautions that an exploration target is not a mineral resource estimate and that further exploration may not produce one. The silver-equivalent and gold-equivalent grades in the release are calculated figures built on the company's stated assumptions, not additional metal in the ground.
What to watch
The follow-up holes at Vortex — whether high grades repeat on neighbouring sections is the real test of 6175A — and further results from Brimstone, the second system the same program is chasing. Hycroft says it is accelerating work at both.
