Headwater Gold's model is generating its own ground, and Ollie is the newest example. On October 29 the company said it had acquired a 100% interest in the Ollie project through claim staking in Mineral County, Nevada — no option payments, no underlying royalty, and no drill hole ever put into it.
- The ground: 81 unpatented lode mining claims covering approximately 1,635 acres (662 hectares) on Bureau of Land Management land, 100%-owned and royalty-free, acquired by staking.
- The address: the Santa Fe mining district in the central Walker Lane, about 5 kilometres northeast of Fortitude Gold's Isabella Pearl mine and 3 kilometres east-northeast of Lahontan Gold's Santa Fe project, inside a district alteration footprint of about 75 square kilometres.
- The idea: Ollie covers structures interpreted to form the opposite margin of a graben from the Santa Fe deposit, cutting the same favourable volcanic stratigraphy — ground the release says has seen little of the district's historical exploration, which concentrated around known resource areas.
- The surface signature: 52 rock samples (23 collected by Headwater, 29 historical) returned gold up to 0.23 g/t, with mercury particularly elevated — 14 samples above 10 ppm mercury, several above the 100 ppm analytical limit — plus arsenic up to 1,400 ppm and antimony up to 53 ppm.
- The alteration work: airborne hyperspectral data supported by spectrometer analyses of 149 surface samples, mapping extensive kaolinite with localised silicification coincident with the pathfinder anomalies.
- Drilling history: none known on the project.
Why the other side of the graben matters
The district's known deposits — Santa Fe, Slab, Calvada, York and Isabella Pearl — sit in Oligocene Mickey Pass Tuff overlying Triassic Luning Formation sedimentary rocks, and both units host gold in the district. At Ollie, surface exposures are interpreted to represent roughly the upper third of the Mickey Pass sequence. The lower volcanic section and its basal contact with the Luning Formation are not exposed, which is the point: Headwater is targeting concealed mineralisation in those untested horizons beneath the surface alteration, along the graben-bounding faults.
President and CEO Caleb Stroup pointed to AngloGold Ashanti's Silicon-Merlin discoveries, now part of its Arthur project, as the analogue — established districts where exploration for blind deposits beneath large zones of altered volcanic rock has been limited. The next phase at Ollie is additional geological mapping and surface sampling to refine targets ahead of a potential initial scout drilling program.
The honesty box
Ollie is a concept at staking stage — there is no drilling, no mineral resource, and no discovery on the project. The gold value cited, up to 0.23 g/t, is a surface rock sample, not a drill intercept, and the release cautions that historical sample results have not been independently verified and are treated as historical in nature. The district numbers that give Ollie its context belong to a neighbour: Lahontan's Santa Fe resources — Indicated 47.5 million tonnes at 0.72 g/t gold for 1.10 million ounces, and Inferred 60.7 million tonnes at 0.59 g/t for 1.15 million ounces, from Lahontan's October 14, 2026 release — are not Ollie's, and the release itself notes neighbouring-property information has not been independently verified by Headwater's qualified person and is not necessarily indicative of mineralisation at Ollie. The cross-section targets are explicitly described as conceptual in nature. Scout drilling is described as potential, not scheduled or funded in this release.
