Revival Gold Hits High-Grade Shallow Gold at Mercur, Utah

Mining Our Future ·

Revival Gold has reported its first batch of 2026 drill results from the Mercur gold project in Utah, and the shallow intercepts are landing in ground the company had not fully tested before. The company announced results from thirteen reverse circulation holes on July 15, with two standout hits: 1.65 grams per tonne gold over 30.5 meters in hole RM26-204, and 0.92 g/t gold over 30.5 meters in hole RM26-183.

At a glance

  • What happened? Revival Gold released first-pass 2026 drill results from its Mercur project near Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • What is the headline number? 1.65 g/t gold over 30.5 meters at 128 meters downhole in hole RM26-204, one of several shallow, gold-bearing intercepts.
  • What stage is Mercur at? Past a 2025 preliminary economic assessment, still working toward a prefeasibility study targeted for early 2027.

Where is Mercur and why does it matter?

Mercur sits about 57 kilometers southwest of Salt Lake City in Tooele and Utah counties. It is not a greenfield discovery: the district produced more than 2.6 million ounces of gold before closing in the late 1990s. Revival Gold consolidated control of the property, acquiring the remaining interest from Barrick Gold in 2024, and has spent the past two years drilling to convert historical mineralization into a modern, permittable project.

That history matters for our Utah state report, which already tracks Rio Tinto Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon copper operation, Materion’s beryllium mine, and Energy Fuels’ uranium mill. Mercur would add a fourth pillar: a restarted, past-producing gold mine in the same state, built on infrastructure and permitting knowledge the state already has.

What did the new drilling find?

Revival Gold has completed 7,400 meters across 74 holes of a planned 18,000-meter program for 2026. Results released this week cover the first thirteen RC holes, drilled across the South Mercur and Main Mercur areas. Beyond the two headline intercepts, the company reported 11 meters of 1.89 g/t gold from 50 meters depth in hole RM26-194, and 6 meters of 2.44 g/t gold from 85 meters depth in hole RM26-189.

The company notes that true widths are estimated at 65 to 100 percent of the drilled widths reported here, a standard caveat until further drilling pins down the geometry of the mineralized zones. Results in the South Mercur area extend below the open pit outlined in the 2025 preliminary economic assessment, which is itself a preliminary study, not a bankable feasibility result.

How does this fit gold’s path from mine to market?

Gold recovered at a heap-leach project like Mercur moves through crushing and cyanide leaching before it is poured into doré bars for refining. From there it can end up plated onto the connectors and chip contacts inside phones, laptops, and satellites, the everyday electronics use our gold glossary entry walks through. A restarted Utah heap-leach mine is a small but concrete example of that chain starting over in a district that already has roads, power, and a permitting history.

What is Revival Gold planning next?

Two RC rigs are currently working at Main Mercur on resource conversion and engineering design, with two more rigs expected to arrive later this summer, doubling the active rig count to four. The company says roughly 8,500 meters of infill drilling is planned this year to move Inferred resources into the Measured and Indicated categories needed for a prefeasibility study, which it is targeting for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2027. An additional several thousand meters of resource-expansion, geotechnical, and hydrological drilling round out the 2026 program.

None of this is a resource estimate update or a construction decision. It is an early step in a multi-year process, and Mercur still needs a completed prefeasibility study, permits, and financing before it could produce gold again. Mining Our Future will track the prefeasibility study when it lands.
